I have just found
your site, and love your jewellery! I hope you don't mind me
asking, but I could do with some advice. I have recently
started making jewellery and have a dream to sell it and build
up a business of my own. I haven't got a clue how to go about
it, though. Would you mind giving me some pointers as to how I
should begin? Don't worry if not - I'll understand perfectly.

Hi Rebecca, Thanks for the
lovely comment about my site! I can tell you how I got started
and hope that will be of help to you!
I started by contacting all the local schools in my area and
asked about having a stall at xmas and summer fetes. Schools
are usually happy to have new stalls and only charge about £10
for a pitch, which is great if you're not sure how much you
are going to sell. The more professional craft fairs charge
£60 - £1000 for a pitch which can be a bit of a gamble. I
found I could make over £100 in a couple of hours at the
school fetes as long as I kept my prices down, and offered a
good range of jewellery for kids as well
as adults. Children are great customers as they are much more
impulsive than adults and tend to show all their friends what
they have bought!
The craft fairs are a good place to give out advertising for
the web site too. If you are interested in putting together a
web site and need help with it then my partner did my site and
charges very reasonable rates (see the links page for more
information).
It is hard to make a living from selling jewellery, but you
can make a fair profit if you buy your beads and findings in
bulk to keep the costs down and try to offer something
original that no one else around your area does.
Good luck with it, let me know how you get on. I would love to
see some pictures of your designs.

Hi Susie, Thank you for replying! I have forwarded your email
to my home address, as I will have more time to look into your
suggestions there. I will let you know how I get on, but thank
you so much for taking the time to write - your advice will
prove invaluable, I'm sure. I love the school fete idea and
will definitely look into that. I'm currently trying to build
up some basic designs to form the core of a portfolio. When I
have some photos I'll send them on to you. I think I'm
probably quite conservative at the moment, but I'm building up
my confidence. -
