I take lots of medication each day to try and keep myself as well as I
can. I do physio each day which helps me get rid of the mucus on my
chest, it's not very pretty but it needs to be done to prevent further
bad infections. I also have to take tablets to help me digest my food,
it's a full time job which is boring and endless.
The idea of selling these
bracelets came to me after reading about Johnny Depp who was seen
wearing a new
bracelet supporting a children's
hospice in the USA. My original idea was to have a similar design so I
looked on the internet to find someone who would be willing to help
make it. After sometime I came across Susie's jewellery and emailed
Susie to see if she could help. I was delighted when she emailed me
back to say would love to help and we started to chat about what
design I wanted.
Susie was happy to use the
plaited leather for the bracelet but couldn't find any silver tags for
the engraveable part, I tried everywhere but had no luck. I did find
one place that would hand make the tags but it would cost too much
money and we thought that it would put people off buying the bracelets
specially when people have family and friends who would want one too.
After a long think I
thought it would be nice to incorporate some roses in the design (see
65 roses story)
and Susie said it would be possible to use small silver rosebuds. After
a few mock up designs and Susie finding the lettered beads to use to
spell out Cystic Fibrosis on the bracelets we decided on two of the
designs, one with rosebuds for the ladies and a plain one for the men.
I wanted to try and help raise money
for the CF trust to give us all hope that one day we will find a cure.
CF is a devastating illness that destroys some people's hopes and
dreams, it's ruthless and cruel and families are torn apart by loosing
their loved ones sometimes at an early age.
I have lost many friends to CF, some were waiting like thousands of
others for a transplant but time just ran out, I want to see CF a
thing of the past and I believe it will happen one day, maybe not in
my lifetime but it will happen.
